‘Guardian of the Mangroves’ shows an intimate moment between a curious American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) and photographer Tanya Houppermans, as it allowed her into its world of luscious mangroves at Gardens of the Queen (Jardines De La Reina).

There’s nowhere quite like Bimini, Bahamas, where you can observe so clearly the links between mangroves as nurseries and our juvenile megafauna.

In the open ocean the small pups are prey, but within the protection of the roots and murky waters around mangroves, they are the predators.
